Down East

If you are from this area you know.  ‘Down East’ is the geographic/ nautical term referring to the eastern coastal region and the maritime provinces of Maine that encompasses Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, and Acadia National Park.  It is legit beautiful!

Coastal vacation spots have their own rhythm and Down East is no exception. I will be honest, the thirst for lobster is strong in this area.  As well as the need for people to connect with nature while exploring Acadia National Park.

If you only have 36 hours to check out this area, consider our tick list:

  • Hike the Beehive Loop Trail
  • Hike/Drive Cadillac Ridge
  • Trail run the Jordan Lake loop (be prepared for odd looks if you run)
  • Sand Beach
  • Eat at Sweet Peas (great place to share farm-to-table eats)
  • Tide pool @ the Bar

Personally, the highlight of this stretch was being to connect with a childhood friend and his daughter in Rockland, ME.  It had been way too long brother!  I loved catching up with you and hearing about the life you’ve created.

I wish I could’ve joined you all! Next time you pass through town, I’m taking the day off 🙂 if you pass through Cuenca, Ecuador, say hello for me. I lived there in the 1990s…

That’s where we’re planning to base out of (Cuenca)! We’re sorry we missed you!
