The “sunshine state” was a state full of fun! We visited Cape Canaveral, Miami area friends, a National Park, and Naples.
Cape Canaveral
Our trip to Cape Canaveral was full of learning and fun! It started with a hot and humid night, then a much too early start, driving to the Kennedy Space Center. We split up into groups: I was with my dad and Avery was with my mom.
My dad and I started at the Atlantis exhibit and saw the real Atlantis shuttle! It was fun to explore around. There was a steep slide in there that was thrilling! After that we watched an IMAX 3D movie about asteroids; my dad enjoyed it but the 3D part of it gave me a headache. Afterwards, we met up with Avery and my mom and had lunch. All four of us then went to watch a forty five minute movie on Apollo. It was long but interesting and I learned a lot.
Next, we split up, and my dad and I took a bus to a place where we learned so much more about Apollo and looked across the water at the Artemis space shuttle. Avery and mom had gone to Atlantis and another exhibit and were siting and having a snack. My dad and I went to another short movie and everyone seemed to be a little low energy and ready to go-we’d been there 8 hours! Overall, it was a great experience and I think we all learned so much! I would definitely recommend it.
Cocoa Beach
The following day we started our drive south and stopped at Cocoa Beach. My dad and I jumped into the raging waves and tried to jump over them for about an hour and a half. My mom took a walk down the beach while Avery read. It was a big surprise to us when we found that the sand was so fine, and that it got everywhere! After our fun beach stop we continued our drive.
Visiting Friends and The Everglades NP
We made our way to the Miami area to visit my mom’s really good friend, Christina, and her family; unfortunately our time was cut short because we wanted to escape Hurricane Ian. However, before we left we had a lot of fun!
One day we had a great visit to the keys. We borrowed our friends snorkel gear and a had lot of fun using it in the shallow, sandy shore. We saw: a nurse shark, two jelly fish and lots of fish! The next day we took a tour with Christina to Everglades National Park. We saw a good amount of wildlife: birds, fish, turtles and the back of an alligator. Thank you Sanchez family for the great food and company!
Naples
We left Everglades National Park and drove for about 45 minutes to Naples. We stayed with my best friend’s grandmother in her pretty house. It was lovely to relax! My dad and I hopped into their pool and played for a while. We had yummy tacos for dinner and a good night’s sleep. In the morning we were treated to a delicious breakfast, then got on the road. Thank you Grandma Jan for an amazing stay!
Overall, Florida was warm and really fun!
